I had big plans for March. I was going to start a new program on Substack, I was going to revamp my website, I was going to release a new webapp…
Then BOOM! Plot twist! On the night of the first of March my wife said something that immediately worried me: “My lower right abdomen hurts”.
About 25 years ago I had my appendix removed, and there are a lot of things I remember about that memory but the one that stands out the most is how the doctor got to diagnosing it.
Around 2-3AM I had this general bellyache I just couldn’t pinpoint for the life of me. Its mysterious but painful nature annoyed me and my parents who had experienced my over-eating to the point of puking multiple times in the past. They assumed I had over-eaten again.
The pain only got worse so when the hospital opened in the morning my parents took me in and voila! The doctor just tapped on my lower right abdomen and HOLY CRAP did it hurt! I was the proud owner of a brand new appendicitis. I remembered this for all these years so my wife could utilize this knowledge I guess?
So we just went to the ER without trying to wait it out. The ER is a scary place to be in general but I think as someone who grew up in a homogenous society American ER’s feel a lot more unpredictable and dangerous. People crying in pain in different languages, movements, and perhaps most importantly different states of mind really helped me observe how we manifest our suffering differently.
Friends, I could write on and on about how the past few days unfolded but if I’m being honest with you I’m dead tired right now from just trying to get through multiple days of caretaking and hospital commutes. So I’ll give you a TL;DR: My wife had appendectomy and thankfully she’s doing fine now, she was discharged today afternoon.
We have some issues with pain management but hopefully it’s temporary. But I still want to give you all the announcements:
- I’m doing a series on my paid Substack subscription on how to start an online business in 2026. If you’ve been wondering how to do that without paying for my business coaching program, this is your perfect chance to learn through my writings and connect more with me!
- I’m working on my new website, julylifecoach.com! Please check it out and let me know what you think!
- Finally, I made a brand new Buddhist practice tracker for all of you who want to track your practice over time with me and the community! Check out practice.julylifecoach.com on your phone or computer!
These all deserve a proper announcement on their own and I’m sure I’ll sound like a broken record as I talk more about these. Bur for now I’m going to finally wash up and go to bed. Love you all, and stay healthy!
