After the Genie's lamp...

When the Genie was set free, this meant two things: Aladdin has used all three of his wishes, and Genie had his wish come true.

Yes, Disney has the straight-to-VHS animation Aladdin 2, but I wonder: what does happily ever after look like for Aladdin and Genie?

Genie would travel all around the world and enjoy his freedom for a while... But he has an entire eternity to live. After he's done with his wishes, what will he do?

Aladdin has a wonderful life with Jasmin, but they'll still argue about (the Arabian Nights analog of) toilet seats, forgetting anniversaries and not having romantic dates on the magic carpet, and other karmic incompatibilities.

After your wishes come true, your life still goes on. But I concede, Aladdin and Genie still have it good because they have the one thing most people continue to "wish" for: having their wishes come true.

It makes sense we spend a lot of time working on our wishes. If a wish is too easy, it's not that near and dear to your heart. If a wish is too hard, we just give up on it.

So a proper wish is just in that sweet spot of being so close and yet so far. That's what makes us keep striving for it.

My uncomfortable truth bomb is...

The wish is actually preventing you from looking beyond that wish.

When I coach life coaching clients, they have a lot of wishes. Lots of money, great career, lovely romantic partners, healthy bodies, the demise of their enemies (!!!), and so on.
