Today was the last practical day of work. I wrapped up my knowledge transfers, deleted all my stuff from my computer, wrote my goodbye email, and turned in my metaphorical gun and badge.
Then we had a nice goodbye party. I talked to my coworkers about leaving, what I’m going to do now, some nice memories, and finally parted ways. But tomorrow’s sun will rise, work will continue at Disney and I will continue my life.
Like any workplace, Disney was a great place to work for and at the same time it wasn’t a great place to work for. But Disney holds a special place in my heart because it allowed a lot of things for my life. Over the last 8 years…
As an engineer I’ve gotten to grow from a guy who writes code following the tickets to a guy who administers an entire data platform that powers the greatest movie studio.
As a Disney fan I’ve gotten to acquire some framed cell art, got the opportunity to tour the animation studios, and even visited Walt’s office.
As a person I’ve gotten to relocate to Southern California and gotten to be a permanent resident of the United States thanks to Disney.
Yes, I had my down moments at Disney. But thinking back, all of those down sides were worth it for the things I got through working at Disney. Disney was so good to me and I am infinitely in gratitude for the time I have had here.
It was my parents’ dream for me to be a permanent resident of the United States and Disney made their dream come true.
It was my dream to work at my favorite company in the world and Disney made my dream come true.
It was my wife’s dream to go to the parks countless times and Disney made her dream come true.
Disney has been, is, and always will be a place where dreams come true.
Now that all my dreams have already come true, now that I have attained all the happiness I wanted from this life, I’m dedicating all of my effort to being in service of others. Look forward to more coaching, more workshops, more books, more training programs, and more Buddhism from me.
